I went quiet. Here’s what I’m building now.

Hey sis. It’s been a minute. Like, a February-2024 minute.

After my last post, I pulled a classic case of what my friends and I call UsEfUl AmNeSiA and conveniently forgot I had a blog. (If you know, you know.)

Now you’re probably asking where the hell I went. WELL, life happened, in the best way. I got married, went all in on school and started looking into investing in my next venture. Something had to give, and it was this blog.

Now I’m stepping into an operator role at a beauty startup, and I’m bringing you along for the ride.

What changed

Real talk: the old blog was trying to be everything at once. Outfits, gift guides, winter date ideas. Some of it was fun. A lot of it was NOT me.

The posts that felt like me were the honest ones. What it’s actually like to work at startups. How to get freelance work when the job market gets rough. How to get your money right without pretending you never impulse-shop. So that’s where my energy is going.

What Shesmalificent is now

This is a founder blog now. Same big sis energy, sharper focus. Everything here falls into three buckets:

  • Startup life: operations, equity, burnout and the stuff nobody mentions in the interview.
  • Freelancing: landing clients, pricing your work and building income on your own terms.
  • Money: budgets that survive irregular income, taxes when you work for yourself and taming the shopping habit. (Still working on that one, doe.)

New here? The Start here page points you to the right posts.

What I’m building

Alongside the blog, I’m opening two ways to work with me:

  • Startup operations for early-stage founders who’ve outgrown winging it.
  • Freelance coaching for women who want clients who actually pay for their skills.

Both live on the Work with me page.

I’m also starting the Big Sis Letters, my email list. That’s where the honest behind-the-scenes stuff goes, the things I’m not ready to put on the blog yet.

What you can expect

Honest posts. No trend-of-the-season fluff. And a posting schedule I can ACTUALLY keep.

Welcome back. Or welcome, period. Pull up a chair, I’ll bring the snacks.

xo, Malificent

Hey, I’m Malificent.

Startup operator, recovering burnt-out W-2 employee and freelancer. I write about the stuff I had to learn the fast, messy way: startup life, landing clients and getting your money right.
